[0:46] <hyc> ah, pretty cool
[0:48] <hyc> hmmm. based on the openmax stuff. DSPBridge 0.3
[0:48] <hyc> same version AI is shipping
[0:49] <hyc> I guess that's good. It would be nice to figure out why 0.4 doesn't work though...
[2:20] <FIN__Master> sdsdasdas
[2:21] <FIN__Master> sorry about that
[2:22] <FIN__Master> has anyone tried the 2009-11.a yet?
[2:22] <FIN__Master> seems that i have still random blanking problem
[2:23] * shiznebit (n=shiznebi@ool-18b99096.dyn.optonline.net) has joined #touchbook
[2:23] <FIN__Master> Is there supposed to be a feature that shuts down the screen when not used
[2:25] * Vito89 (n=quassel@195.113.241.249) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[2:28] <Corsac> FIN__Master: yes
[2:28] <Corsac> FIN__Master: dpms shut the screen off when not used
[2:29] * jvs (n=jvs@90.146.56.206) Quit ("Leaving")
[2:31] <FIN__Master> ok. But should it come back when doing something because in my tb it needs a "double-click" on the power button
[2:31] <FIN__Master> and any idea if I can change the idle time?
[2:32] <Corsac> you can use the xset command, not sure if there's a gui for that and I don't have it at hand
[2:42] * shiznebit (n=shiznebi@ool-18b99096.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[2:47] * shiznebit (n=shiznebi@ool-18b99096.dyn.optonline.net) has joined #touchbook
[2:52] <FIN__Master> there is no gui for xset but i'll try with the command line
[2:53] <ryuo> Corsac: most GUIs that mess with screensaver, etc, use the xset API as their backend.
[2:53] <ryuo> xset is just a console tool for messing with it directly.
[2:53] <ryuo> also a good diagnostic
[2:59] <FIN__Master> it seems to be very easy to use too so no need for gui :D
[3:09] <FIN__Master> do you have any idea why tb doesn't remember any settings after boot
[3:10] <FIN__Master> also the scrensaver settings came back to default when i booted
[3:22] * Vito89 (n=quassel@94.142.235.206) has joined #touchbook
[3:24] <Corsac> ryuo: I meant *in the touchbook*
[3:24] <ryuo> oh? hm
[3:27] <FIN__Master> my screen just blanked while typing an email :S
[3:28] <FIN__Master> and xset says the delay should be 600s
[3:29] <FIN__Master> it takes more time now to blank but it seems to still happen
[3:30] <ryuo> FIN__Master: did you update to the latest release?
[3:30] <FIN__Master> yes. twice already
[3:30] <ryuo> hm
[3:30] <FIN__Master> it posted to forums about my first impressions
[3:30] <ryuo> odd that greg didn't post sha1sums at least.
[3:34] <jaggz> probably because the hidden camera is now sending live video of your face to him
[3:34] <jaggz> muahaha.
[3:34] <jaggz> ugh this channel is logged...
[3:34] <ryuo> yes, it is.
[3:39] <FIN__Master> screen blanked twice in a few minutes
[4:26] * setanta (n=setanta@200.184.118.130) has joined #touchbook
[4:28] <Corsac> FIN__Master: please update the bug report then
[4:38] <FIN__Master> I reopened the bug #39
[4:41] <dpb> FIN__Master: how did you upgrade to 11.a? are you sure you really updated the kernel partition too?
[4:42] <leinir> hmm... rotating the screen makes the touch screen calibration go completely haywire
[5:10] <FIN__Master> I updated with the install-sd.sh script in kubuntu karmic
[5:10] <FIN__Master> Like I wrote at forums, i cannot get the script to work without formatting the card first so the card was formatted empty when using the script
[5:11] <dpb> ok, should be fine then..
[5:13] <Corsac> FIN__Master: -e will erase the card
[5:13] <FIN__Master> now I got screensaver and dpms disabled and still the screen blanked
[5:14] <FIN__Master> Corsac: I know, but the card will be without partitions after that
[5:14] <FIN__Master> Corsac: and the script wont work with my card without partitions
[5:16] <Corsac> FIN__Master: the script /will/ create partitions
[5:17] <Corsac> though if the stuff boots, that's not really the problem :)
[5:17] <Corsac> FIN__Master: I would double check the uImage, mlo, u-boot.bin and image.squashfs are ones from the 2009.11a release, juste in case
[5:19] <FIN__Master> Corsac: I actually tried also the boot images from the /latest folder and those are updated after 9-Nov
[5:20] <FIN__Master> Corsac: And i know its supposed to make partitions but it doesn't :D
[5:21] <Corsac> maybe try using sudo bash ./install-sd.sh, I think dash doesn't really like the script
[5:21] <FIN__Master> Should I get a bunch of lines telling that /dev/sdc* cannot be unmounted?
[5:22] <Corsac> yes
[5:23] <FIN__Master> ok. those are the only lines that i thought could be errors..
[5:23] * shiznebit (n=shiznebi@ool-18b99096.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[5:25] <FIN__Master> another weird thing about my tb is the file rights
[5:26] <FIN__Master> is there a simple way to check those are correct

[7:40] <Meiz_TB> the hinde just cracked when i opened it..
[7:41] * Meiz_TB goes look around for some super-glue
[7:42] <FIN__Master> wonder what the official opinion about that is..
[7:43] <FIN__Master> meaning that the hinges feel quite weak

[8:57] <FIN__Master> alexandre: have you noticed the #39 bug i reopened? Is there anyone else reporting that on 2009-11.a?
[9:00] <gregoiregentil> No. I really doubt because we have over checked the resolution of this bug
[9:00] <FIN__Master> I?ve explained what i?ve done here at this channel
[9:01] <FIN__Master> And I really hope I?ve done something wrong
[9:02] <FIN__Master> my tb has blanked the screen 10 times in the last 4 hours while I was doing nothing with it except pressing powerbutton to restart the screen
[9:04] * alexandre (n=alexandr@c-76-21-41-103.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) Quit ()
[9:08] <ryuo> gregoiregentil: for everyones sake, could you post sha1sums of the binaries?
[9:08] <ryuo> some way to verify that we got the file intact

[9:17] <gregoiregentil> Done
[9:33] <gregoiregentil> Kernel version of 2009-11.a is "Linux touchbook 2.6.29-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Sun Nov 8 17:42:06 PST 2009 armv7l unknown"
[9:34] * tommd (n=Thomas_D@65-102-11-148.ptld.qwest.net) has left #touchbook
[9:35] <FIN__Master> and the earlier version was "--- Sun Sep 27 ---" ?
[9:36] <FIN__Master> I wonder how can I still have that after formatting the card and installing the files dated this week in the /latest folder..
[9:39] <Corsac> FIN__Master: if they weren't in the current folder and/or you didn't specify in which folder they were, they would have been downloaded from the website
[9:40] <Corsac> _and_ there's the bug in the latest install-sd.sh (which I told alexandre about...), the RELEASE var is wrong
[9:40] * alexandre (n=alexandr@c-98-210-206-210.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has joined #touchbook
[9:40] <FIN__Master> I used kubuntu live-cd and downloaded the files from latest before the script. Im so relieved for being wrong :D
[9:41] <Corsac> curl -s http://build.alwaysinnovating.com/release/latest/install-sd.sh | gre
[9:41] <Corsac> p RELEASE=
[9:41] <Corsac> RELEASE=2009-09.c
[9:41] <FIN__Master> 19:42 < Corsac> RELEASE=2009-09.c
[9:42] <gregoiregentil> correct. Seems to be a mistake in the script
[9:42] <FIN__Master> putty + mouse = sorry
[9:42] <Corsac> so if the files aren't in current folder (and you didn't set -o), then it'll download the wrong ones
[9:42] <Corsac> which might be your problem
[9:43] <gregoiregentil> correct analysis. Fixed on server
[9:43] <Corsac> FIN__Master: you can just put the correct kernel on the card, though
[9:43] <Corsac> FIN__Master: replace the uImage
[9:43] <FIN__Master> ok. I?ll try
[9:43] <gregoiregentil> Not sure about this. I saw some problems of new kernel with previous rootfs and I don't know why
[9:43] <Corsac> as the image.squashfs is downloaded separately, I guess you have the correct one
[9:43] <gregoiregentil> but if the guy has not checked the version in the about box, that's not very good report
[9:43] <Corsac> so you already have the correct modules
[9:44] * Corsac grmbls about not having installed openssh before leaving
[9:44] <gregoiregentil> I have added the linux version and date on the wiki
[9:45] <FIN__Master> when i select system->chech update it says 11.a
[9:45] <Corsac> so the rootfs is correct
[9:45] <gregoiregentil> http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/List_packages_2009-11.a
[9:45] <gregoiregentil> so what's "uname -a" in a terminal reports?
[9:46] <FIN__Master> that september version :S
[9:46] <Corsac> FIN__Master: please paste it
[9:47] <FIN__Master> "Linux touchbook 2.6.29-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Sun Sep 27 23:02:05 PDT 2009 armv71 unknown"
[9:48] * robclark (n=robclark@nat/ti/x-jncktvwzbqgctjaa) has joined #touchbook
[9:49] <Corsac> FIN__Master: definitely wrong, so just get the correct kernel, install it on the sdcard and boot
[9:49] <Corsac> should be ok then
[9:50] <gregoiregentil> Hopefully... Sorry for the script error. it was a mistake on my side
[9:50] <FIN__Master> so should the script now work without downloading the files first?
[9:51] <gregoiregentil> if the file is local, the script doesn't download
[9:51] <gregoiregentil> the script only download the small files only if they are not local
[9:52] <Corsac> gregoiregentil: maybe the script should be updated to drop completely the RELEASE variable and only use /latest/ ?
[9:52] <gregoiregentil> Initially, it's what it was doing but I wanted to be able to install a previous version with the script
[9:52] <gregoiregentil> so it's why I changed it
[9:53] <gregoiregentil> perhaps I can put latest as default and if the user forces the version in the command line, it overwrites
[9:53] <Corsac> yup, that'd be nice
[10:13] <FIN__Master> Could I someway boot from usb?
[10:16] * blunderer (n=tristan@LPuteaux-156-15-47-90.w82-127.abo.wanadoo.fr) has left #touchbook
[10:17] <Corsac> no
[10:18] <FIN__Master> ok. Just a thought
[10:18] <dpb> sure, if you change the uboot parameters, but you might easily brick the device
[10:24] * Meiz_TB (n=Meizirkk@pc-226-142.cable.aina.net) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))

[11:15] <martinh> hmmm. is this automated update stuff supposed to work? or, am I repeating a question that'll be answerd if I look at the forums?
[11:25] <snlemons> martinh: a search for "updater" in the forum turns up a couple of people reporting issues. this indicates that it is _supposed_ to, but may not always. :)
[11:42] <snlemons> martinh: it does look like you can run the scripts from command line, if you want to check whether they're failing. not sure how you'd check whether they're ever actually running.
[11:47] <martinh> I see.
[11:49] <snlemons> martinh: if you're familiar with the Unix command top, you could use it to see if the script runs (assuming it takes enough time to show up.)
[11:50] <snlemons> from what I've read, the script runs right after you connect to a wireless network. so you could disconnect, start up top, and reconnect while watching top.
[11:51] <martinh> ah. interesting. yea, i'm a long time unix geek.
[11:51] <snlemons> oh, actually, I lied. the wiki has corrected me.
[11:51] <snlemons> http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Updater
[11:51] <martinh> oh?
[11:51] <snlemons> you can run from Start, too.
[11:51] <snlemons> AND it runs on network connect.
[11:52] <martinh> I really haven't had much time to devote to that.
[11:52] <snlemons> so, my top idea should still work.
[11:57] <martinh> ah. the updater script that I'm getting from ai just echos "nothing for the moment"
[11:57] <martinh> that seems. . .useles.

[12:15] <leinir> Yup, i'm using it :)
[12:16] <leinir> It's certainly better than the old one :)
[12:16] <FIN__Master> I cant open the desktop window from control panel. you?
[12:16] <leinir> There's a reeeally dumb bug that i keep hitting - double-clicking on the title-bar of a window causes the window manager to crash ;)
[12:16] <leinir> desktop window?
[12:16] <FIN__Master> the settings window
[12:17] <leinir> oh right - sorry, i don't know, and i ran out of power a little while ago so i've not got it on :)
[12:17] <FIN__Master> it flashes and then goes away
[12:18] <FIN__Master> oh its the double-click doing it.. I noticed it too but didn't figure out what caused it
[12:19] <FIN__Master> now after trying the doubleclick gotta reboot :D
[12:19] <FIN__Master> have you reported the bug?
[12:20] <leinir> i've not - it seems that the bugtracker does not function in midori ;)
[12:20] <leinir> i couldn't select a product

[12:55] <FIN__Master> are the -O switches wrong in the installing script? At least the wget in my tb dont knnow how to handle them. Changed those to -o and it worked..
[12:55] <Corsac> at which lines?
[12:55] <FIN__Master> all the wget commands
[12:56] <Corsac> there's no -O afaik
[12:56] <Corsac> how did you download the script? There's no -O at all
[12:57] <alexandre> FIN_Master: relaunch xfwm4
[12:59] <FIN__Master> Corsac: I see someone fixed it already. I had a version I downloaded this morning
[13:00] <FIN__Master> alexandre: you meant when doubleclicked a window?
[13:00] <alexandre> FIN_Master: yes
[13:01] <alexandre> it's a -o option (low case)
[13:02] <FIN__Master> alexandre: i know it know :D Just had a version with -O and had error messages. works now
[13:05] <FIN__Master> I also found that mplayer crashes when i select file->open
[13:05] <FIN__Master> Is it a known issue?
[13:08] <alexandre> mplayer works fine for me..
[13:08] <alexandre> with the open location

[13:10] <FIN__Master> that one works but when trying to open a local file with "open", it just shuts down
[13:11] <FIN__Master> it worked in earlier release because i used to watch movies that way
[13:14] <alexandre> what are you *exactly* doing for crash? Start > Multimedia > Media Player then File > Open location works with both the audio and video examples shipped in the OS.
[13:14] <Janno_freenode> should the touchbook be ready to boot up from the sd card after running install-sd.sh -d <card> -e?
[13:16] <FIN__Master> that was exactly what I did except after File > Open nothing happens and it shuts down
[13:16] <gregoiregentil1> No.
[13:16] <gregoiregentil1> -e is just to write the partition table to the card
[13:16] <gregoiregentil1> you need to do the same command line again without -e to install all the files
[13:16] <Janno_freenode> ah, okay
[13:17] <gregoiregentil1> and it's recommended to extract/re-insert the card between the two command lines
[13:18] <Janno_freenode> it seems to be doing the same thing it did after reformatting the card
[13:19] <FIN__Master> it asks after formatting to install the os. Isn't it supposed to ask?
[13:21] <Janno_freenode> yeah, I think it did
[13:21] <Janno_freenode> okay, at least it got to the ai logo
[13:22] <Janno_freenode> but it shuts down after please wait
[13:24] <Janno_freenode> hm, it's not exactly shutting down, more like standby
[13:25] <gregoiregentil1> at ai logo or with the "Please wait"?
[13:25] <gregoiregentil1> Make sure to have DC plugged too
[13:26] <Janno_freenode> yeah its plugged in
[13:26] <gregoiregentil1> ai logo or with the "Please wait"?
[13:26] <Janno_freenode> yeah
[13:26] <gregoiregentil1> yeah what?
[13:26] <Janno_freenode> well, not at the same time.. first the ai logo, then please wait, then black screen
[13:26] <FIN__Master> gregoiregentil1: there is no exit command between the formatting and installing in the script. Should there be?
[13:27] <gregoiregentil1> it was, it has been removed
[13:27] <gregoiregentil1> it depends if this partition over-write or if sfdisk is used
[13:27] <gregoiregentil1> as I fixed the sfdisk bug, it's not any more needed unless the script uses the partition file
[13:27] <Janno_freenode> wifi is still blinking
[13:28] <gregoiregentil1> The card can't be accessed properly
[13:28] <gregoiregentil1> either the squashfs or the fourth partition haven't been flashed correctly

[13:38] <Janno_freenode> it worked
[13:38] <Janno_freenode> not without dc plugged in but still..

[14:03] <gregoiregentil1> There are still a bunch of things to improve but I think that we have reached something that is really beta: for instance, web experience starts to look like iPhone with screen keyboard that pops up when needed, finger scrolling and so on...
[14:03] <Janno_freenode> btw: any idea why tun.ko from ikpg install kernel-module-tun would have an "invalid module format"? (from insmod, modprobe cannot find the module)
[14:04] <gregoiregentil1> it should not. Make sure that you have the right modules. as Requested by another user, I have
[14:04] <gregoiregentil1> put the modules on the server so you can find the modules in the modules.tgz tarball
[14:04] <gregoiregentil1> Try this one
[14:05] <Janno_freenode> oh, cool
[14:05] <Janno_freenode> I'll do that
[14:08] <DJWillis> gregoiregentil1: on the TB do you happen to know off hand what version of AUFS2 you use?
[14:08] <gregoiregentil1> pretty recent
[14:10] <DJWillis> gregoiregentil1: cool, don't suppose you know the config flags your using do you (if not, i'll have a dig), trying to track down some AUFS2 weirdness on another OMAP3 device.

[17:13] <govee> trying the new os and have to say things are starting to move foward.
[17:13] <gregoiregentil> Cool ;-) second positive feed-back about this release. All the nights I spent to fix those crazy bugs seem to have been useful!
[17:16] <govee> i installed get_flash_videos and wanted noticed that the .flv are not associated to mplayer and cant set that. I get a complaint about Failed to execute child process "update-desktop-database" (No such file or directory).

[17:21] <govee> I am anxious to akethis on my next trip. Ilike towatch videos onthe plane and having this to do that as well as surfing the web, checking email, playing games....TB will be a great add to my pack.
[17:24] <govee> I just realized I cant select text in midori? is there a new way to do that withh thechanges thaty where made?
[17:25] <gregoiregentil> no. I can improve the userscript
[17:25] <gregoiregentil> I can try. we remove the text selection because it's much better for scrolling with finger
[17:30] <govee> ok on both. I can play the flv with the open cmd in mplayer. the text select is useful when trying to copy cmds for the term. I am a horrible typer!!! Not a killer though and I am sure there are more important things to work on first. just another pri 3 or 4 STR.
[17:34] <shiznebit> gregoiregentil, one of usb ports is dead
[17:34] <shiznebit> completely and utterly dead
[17:35] <martinh> hmmm. got the upgrade working after a manual sd upgrade.
[17:35] <martinh> but, now i get no network.
[17:35] <gregoiregentil> shiznebit: which one?
[17:35] <martinh> it scans for it, but won't connect.

[17:42] <shiznebit_> ugh. no
[17:43] <shiznebit_> i just installed it by manually
[17:43] <asciiforever> is the script *supposed* to work?
[17:43] <shiznebit_> ugh yeah it worked for me
[17:44] <shiznebit_> i used it originally with the sept.c
[17:44] <gregoiregentil> asciiforever: what's your problem?
[17:44] <gregoiregentil> pastebin.com the output of the script if you have it

[17:45] <shiznebit_> grefoire what am i looking for in the usb connectors
[17:46] <shiznebit_> gregoiregentil *
[17:46] <gregoiregentil> well, just open the red pane and take a look around the connector
[17:46] <gregoiregentil> take a look at D22, D21, anything special
[17:47] <gregoiregentil> also, if you have a voltmeter, it would be great to measure the voltage (but that may be a little bit advanced) if you don't have a voltmeter
[17:47] <shiznebit_> yeah i dont have one
[17:48] <shiznebit_> i see something weird
[17:48] <shiznebit_> L25 is missing

[17:50] <asciiforever> install-sd.sh seems to have made the FAT partition on the card way way way too small
[17:50] <gregoiregentil> is it the silicon power card
[17:51] <gregoiregentil> or is it your card?
[17:52] <asciiforever> it's not the silicon power card
[17:52] <asciiforever> it's another 8gb card

[18:05] <martinh> hmmm. ok. why did networking stop working after the upgrade?
[18:08] <gregoiregentil> the upgrade has only been tested if there is a full erase of the fourth partition
[18:08] <gregoiregentil> if you have some files left over on the fourth partition and only the squashfs is updated, that won't work well
[18:10] <drantin> it hasn't caused a problem for me yet, only upgraded the squashfs and /boot
[18:10] <hyc> seems a bit awkward huh. like we need a couple more partitions. one for /home that stays intact
[18:10] <drantin> should probably go in and clear the dotfiles in my /home on the fourth partition though
[18:10] <asciiforever> how should i go about manually setting up my sd card since install-sd.sh isn't working?
[18:11] <gregoiregentil> hyc: yes, I wanted to do that. but it's many partitions and you are potentially wasting some space
[18:11] <gregoiregentil> hyc: also, this is only the case during beta upgrade
[18:11] <gregoiregentil> hyc: when we will do upgrade after release 1.0, that will be handled
[18:12] <hyc> gregoiregentil: yeah I guess the waste can be an issue.
[18:12] <hyc> ok
[18:12] <gregoiregentil> asciiforever: is it the standard card?
[18:12] <martinh> i did the manual upgrade. so i started from scratch.
[18:12] <gregoiregentil> can you pastebin your script output?
[18:12] <asciiforever> gregoiregentil, no, it is a transcend card, 8GB
[18:13] <asciiforever> http://pastebin.com/m7d635a69
[18:14] <gregoiregentil> ./install-sd.sh: 105: let: not found [: 105: =: unexpected operator
[18:14] <gregoiregentil> that's not correct
[18:14] <gregoiregentil> which machine are you running?
[18:14] <gregoiregentil> you don't seem to have bash. that's the problem
[18:14] <gregoiregentil> it will be easier to fix that rather doing the script manually
[18:15] <asciiforever> doing this under ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> Ok. very interesting
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> ls -lah /bin/sh
[18:15] <ryuo> ...
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> can you do this?
[18:15] <ryuo> ubuntu uses dash i believe
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> I guess that you have the standard crappy dash on ubuntu
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> yes....
[18:15] <ryuo> </3 dash
[18:15] <ryuo> -.-
[18:15] <gregoiregentil> you need to do the same thing as on the wiki for building the image
[18:15] <asciiforever> lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2009-01-06 18:40 /bin/sh -> dash
[18:15] <ryuo> lol
[18:16] <gregoiregentil> let me tell you what to do
[18:16] <asciiforever> ok
[18:16] <gregoiregentil> read the third paragraph on http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/AI_OS_compilation
[18:16] <ryuo> believe you have to use bash...
[18:16] <gregoiregentil> sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash
[18:16] <gregoiregentil> yes. definitely.
[18:17] <ryuo> is the script compatible with the new bash?
[18:17] <asciiforever> ok
[18:17] <ryuo> 4.x
[18:17] <ryuo> hey debian, would you like some mrs. dash? :>
[18:27] <asciiforever> gregoiregentil, great, the new sd card is booting now. thanks for the assistance.
[18:27] <gregoiregentil> No. we should document this. there are many ubuntu users....
[18:28] <gregoiregentil> we will add to wiki
