[0:25] <Komzpa> hi. have anybody tried running JOSM on touchbook?
[0:26] <Komzpa> josm is java openstreetmap editor, http://josm.openstreetmap.de/download/
[0:31] * blunderer (n=tristan@LPuteaux-156-15-47-90.w82-127.abo.wanadoo.fr) has joined #touchbook

[1:28] <azul> why are people stealing gregoire's idea?!
[1:29] <Komzpa> is there working java on touchbook?
[1:30] <_koen_> define java
[1:31] <Komzpa> _koen_: something able to run http://josm.openstreetmap.de/download/josm-snapshot-2740.jar :) (a desktop java)
[1:31] <_koen_> jamvm and classpath should be able to do that
[1:32] <_koen_> but I still wouldn't run any interpreted language (save shell) on an arm cpu
[1:33] <Komzpa> _koen_: well, still a question about speed.
[1:33] <_koen_> josm ran sluggish on my dual core laptop with sunvm when I last tried it
[1:34] <_koen_> 2 years ago, so it might have improved
[1:34] <Komzpa> jalimo on my n800 runs josm, but too slow (more than a minute to start, tens of seconds when opening download window)
[1:35] <Komzpa> _koen_: josm runs smooth on my athlon x2 4200. and performed well on p700.
[1:37] <Komzpa> _koen_: could you check it on touchbook please? :)

[2:14] <DJWillis> _koen_: any idea why qt4.inc pulls in the demos and examples for Qt4 into every image? Seems daft and bad rec'ing it out of an image seems the wrong way to deal with it. Is there a good reason for it?
[2:16] <_koen_> DJWillis: check the testlab file to see whih package is dragging it in
[2:19] <DJWillis> _koen_: it's in the qt4.inc, the RRECOMMENDS_${PN} = "${LIB_PACKAGES} ${OTHER_PACKAGES}" in qt4.inc seems to do that as demos and examples are in ${OTHER_PACKAGES} so any core Qt4 package brings it in (qt4-x11-free or qt4-x11-free-gles in my case).
[2:21] <_koen_> ${PN} is just a meta package
[2:21] <_koen_> you don't need to install any qt by yourself, library depends will bring them in automatically
[2:29] <DJWillis> _koen_: but what if you want to ship Qt libs in your image but have no need of any Qt apps (odd I know but that's my current situation). Am I wrong to have qt4-x11-free-gles in my image task then?
[2:31] <_koen_> yeah, you want to list the libs
[2:31] <_koen_> or stop doing stupid stuff like including unneeded libs :)
[2:31] <_koen_> DJWillis: you're probably better of including 'arora', one more browser for people to play with and it only depends on qt
[2:33] <DJWillis> ;-), slap noted. One question, how can I ensure I get a gles vairent of Qt should I package arora?

[2:45] <_koen_> atm I bitbake -b it
[2:45] <_koen_> it's also in the feeds with a higher PR than the non gles version :)

[3:42] <mjr> repeat from the holidays; how's the generic stability wrt. usb and all nowadays? (DJ said "assuming the recent Touchbooks have the same USB power tweaks used on recent Beagles and the Pandora, pretty good I would guess", but can someone verify said condition?)

[6:02] <Gary13579> "We're still trying to wrap our heads around what Lenovo's just announced here, but it appears that the 3.8-pound IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is a 11.6-inch laptop with a retractable multitouch screen. It's sort of like the Always Innovating Touchbook, but in our opinion a lot more interesting."
[6:02] <Gary13579> LOLD
[6:02] <Gary13579> capslock ;;
[6:03] <Gary13579> mm both c2d and snapdragon
[6:16] <dpb> I'd like to know if the c2d part can run linux too, or does it have some Windows specific software to make it fully work. And if one can use the snapdragon part even when connected to the c2d part. That would make an awesome development platform for trips if those are possible.
[6:16] <martinh> interesting.

[6:42] <Gary13579> dpb, it's impossible to say for sure, but ibm/lenovo have had a very long history of being well supported by linux
[6:42] <Gary13579> specifically, almost all of the features on thinkpads are 100% supported
[6:43] <Gary13579> I think the fingerprint scanner was still iffy but I haven't seen any other issues
[6:44] <dpb> Gary13579: lenovo also has a history of dropping all linux support in between. They re-added the support some time ago.
[6:44] <mjr> yeah that they did
[6:44] <mjr> one could hope they realized sufficiently well that it was a bad idea
[6:44] <Gary13579> mm, I haven't followed lenovo that closely, but from the last devices I looked into (x200/x300) support seemed fine
[6:44] <dpb> But my point was if that ideapad needs some special windows software to operate
[6:45] <dpb> The design is quite different from normal thinkpads.
[6:46] <Gary13579> of course
[6:46] <Gary13579> I'd assume it would require software support

[14:28] <leinir> whether or not there is, i've not actually used it for note taking like that, so i can't really tell :)
[14:29] <vorner> but I asked more like if you draw a line and then you want to continue it from one of its ends, is it possible to do so or you end up few pixels away?
[14:29] <vorner> Because I got my hands on another netbook with touchscreen today and it was nearly impossible to continue a line
[14:32] <leinir> that's what i mean, i've not really tried it so i can't tell... and right now it's not with me, so i can't try right now :)
