[7:52] <MochaRoo> Hello!
[7:54] <MochaRoo> I have a teeny ( huge ) problem.
[7:55] <MochaRoo> My TouchBook makes it to a black - not red- Always Innovating screen on boot up, where upon it immediately shuts off without warning.
[7:55] <MochaRoo> I have reinstalled the OS using the recommended methods. Same result.
[7:55] <MochaRoo> Pulling the SD card gives me nothing but a white screen, but for an infinite amount of time, therefore I think the charger is working just fine.
[7:57] <MochaRoo> I'm not getting that precious 'red' screen everyone talks about. :(

[9:32] <MochaRoo> Er, or maybe not. What do I do after I create the new partition table on the SD card?
[9:35] <martinh> there's an install-sd command there.
[9:35] <martinh> do with the -e switch initially to erase and create the partition table. rerun without that switch to make it download and isntall stuff.
[9:35] <MochaRoo> Oh, I see.
[9:36] <martinh> alternatively, answer "yes" when it asks you if you want to download and install after finishing the -e part

[9:46] <MochaRoo> Sigh.

[18:24] <Sn0wman_Desk> anyone here use their TB regularly?
[18:24] <Sn0wman_Desk> for non-dev purposes?
[18:25] <MochaRoo> If I could get it to charge perhaps.
[18:25] <Sn0wman_Desk> hehe I know the feeling
[18:25] <MochaRoo> Yeah, so does everyone else. :/
[18:26] <Sn0wman_Desk> how many others you know have the problem?
[18:26] <MochaRoo> I'm looking at the forums. This is a defect, pure and simple.
[18:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah :/ thinkin about replacing it with some other battery
[18:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> I haven't had a problem with the keyboard
[18:28] <Sn0wman_Desk> maybe I can take the one out of the crapped out keyboard and put it in...
[18:32] <MochaRoo> I wish there was some process that described what they have to do to get it working.
[18:32] <Sn0wman_Desk> :-/ me 2
[18:32] <MochaRoo> We can strip this thing down to the last contact. If it's a matter of reseating something or soldering it in place, I'm all for it.
[18:32] <MochaRoo> If it's the battery manufacturing process itself, welp.
[18:33] <Sn0wman_Desk> I agree
[18:34] <Sn0wman_Desk> gregoiregentil: is there a safe way (without destroying the battery, to remove the keyboard's battery?
[18:38] <Sn0wman_Desk> nm
[18:39] <gregoiregentil> no
[18:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> I just peeled it off
[18:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> thanks though
[18:42] <MochaRoo> I'm more curious about the power adapter. It seems they don't so much die as... trickle.
[18:43] <MochaRoo> Something goes horribly wrong and power flow slows to just the slightest charge. I can get mine to work for close to a minute if I leave it sitting for a few hours plugged in.
[18:43] <MochaRoo> It's just... augh. I don't understand.

[18:44] <Sn0wman_Desk> nor do I, I might try an... odd mod where I put an old battery from my keyboard into the tablet
[18:45] <Sn0wman_Desk> I works I just need to find some space...
[18:45] * vishalbhoj (~vishalbho@121.243.172.208) has joined #touchbook
[18:46] <MochaRoo> My only guess is the chemical content of the battery itself goes under some radical haphazard change. Like, sudden severe 'memory' issues that old laptop batteries gain through a few thousand charges.
[18:46] <vishalbhoj> Hello, My touchbook is not powering up at all.I have kept it on charging for a day .When I press the power button, red light glows n then it does notswitch on...
[18:47] <MochaRoo> See? This. ^^
[18:47] <MochaRoo> Every problem I have heard of so far has involved the TouchBook suddenly dropping its ability to charge.
[18:48] <vishalbhoj> The battery is not drained out in my case.
[18:49] <tommd> If it isn't turning on even when you have it plugged in then there is a different problem.
[18:49] <vishalbhoj> I know that but I am unable to debug it.how should i go about it ?
[18:49] <tommd> if it isn't _staying_ on with battery power that is another case
[18:49] <tommd> and if it can stay one (but not power on from off) on battery power that tells you something else.
[18:50] <tommd> Well which of these three cases is true?
[18:51] <MochaRoo> I can 'power up' the TouchBook ( ie: it reaches a blank, black screen for half a second and then abruptly shuts off ) on both battery power and AC.
[18:51] <MochaRoo> The tablet itself, once seperated, refuses to power up at all in both cases.
[18:52] <vishalbhoj> MochaRoo: urs problem is related to battery ...whenever this happened in my case keeping it for charginf worked
[18:53] <vishalbhoj> Is there anyway I can debug the problem I am facing .Should I post this in the forum for answers?
[18:57] <vishalbhoj> gregoiregentil or others, Can anyone tell me how can I debug my board ?
[18:57] <MochaRoo> Please post it. This problem is getting to be irritatingly common. It's going to take someone willing to choke on their warranty to find out what is going wrong.

[19:26] <Sn0wman_Desk> gregoiregentil: why does the main site have the TB listed as having 512MB of ram?
[19:26] <gregoiregentil> because now we have 512MB
[19:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> ? did you change the hardware? Does it not have an omap3530 anymore?
[19:27] <gregoiregentil> it's the same OMAP
[19:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> ?
[19:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> but the 3530 has 256MB
[19:28] <gregoiregentil> 3530 is the CPU. It has nothing to do with memory
[19:28] <gregoiregentil> memory is on a separate chip
[19:28] <Sn0wman_Desk> well its a system on a chip
[19:28] <Sn0wman_Desk> h
[19:28] <gregoiregentil> when we started shipping, 512MB was not available
[19:28] <Sn0wman_Desk> oh*
[19:28] <Sn0wman_Desk> well that stinks... :-?

[19:34] <MochaRoo> Urgh this is driving me crazy.
[19:34] <Sn0wman_Desk> thanks for bragging tommd
[19:34] <Sn0wman_Desk> :-P
[19:34] <tommd> Who is urgh?
[19:34] <MochaRoo> After letting it charge for awhile and yanking the SD card, I got it to stay on indefinitely.
[19:34] <Sn0wman_Desk> YAY!
[19:35] <MochaRoo> Turned it off. Turned it back on. Same problem again. Not even a second's battery life.
[19:35] <MochaRoo> What the heck.
[19:35] <MochaRoo> ( Didn't reinsert the SD card between reboots. )
[19:35] <Sn0wman_Desk> There needs to be some type of recall for ones like ours
[19:35] <MochaRoo> This really is miserable.
[19:35] <MochaRoo> I'm so mad.
[19:36] <Sn0wman_Desk> when'd you get yours?
[19:36] <tommd> like whos? Power probl?em
[19:36] <MochaRoo> Pre-order model.
[19:36] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah
[19:36] <Sn0wman_Desk> There are a LOT of people who have problems with their battery and have the inablilty to charge it
[19:36] <MochaRoo> But glitches like this imply that it -isn't- the battery? I don't know. It's a nightmare.
[19:37] <Sn0wman_Desk> well then hardware glitches
[19:37] <tommd> Get a 4.2V source - find out if its the battery or the wire/circuit
[19:38] <Sn0wman_Desk> I'll try that after I get my bottom battery down
[19:38] <Sn0wman_Desk> so far its been 2 and a half hours and its at 28%. Playing zombieland the whole time
[19:39] <Sn0wman_Desk> so the keyboard battery is fair... just what is with the tablet?!?
[19:39] <MochaRoo> Good movie for it to die on.
[19:39] <Sn0wman_Desk> haha. hopefully the keyboard battery won't become a zombie
