[1:03] <reis> tb shut down while in tablet use. today i rebooted but after os-selection nothing than blinking cursor. the same for each sd-card I tried. note, the keyboard-led was green! even though the batterie most likely was not recharged yet. i
[1:03] <reis> I repeated trying for about 45 min until it booted into aios again
[1:04] <reis> I can just suggest to not use alle of the tablet's batterie charge
[1:06] <reis> whats really puzzling is that I always got to the visual os-selection, never got to get a commandline (7) and that the keyboard led always turns green after the first few seconds of power-on

[7:26] <martinh> hmmm. I think the fact that flash drives aren't automounted on insertion is starting to get annoying.
[7:27] <martinh> I'll have to see about fixing that.

[8:11] <MochaRoo> Is there ~any way~ once the TB reaches the Red Screen in 10.01b or whatever it is, to enter a command line or any other interface and troubleshoot
[8:11] * Meizirkki (~Meizirkki@bbwirelessgw2-fee1dc00-2.dhcp.inet.fi) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[8:12] <emile> troubleshoot how ?
[8:12] * Meizirkki (~Meizirkki@bbwirelessgw2-fee1dc00-2.dhcp.inet.fi) has joined #touchbook
[8:12] <MochaRoo> It does not appear to be progressing past that screen at all.
[8:12] <MochaRoo> I want to know if it's looking for a file it can't find or... something useful.
[8:15] <reis> which screen?
[8:15] <reis> black? red?
[8:15] <reis> selection?
[8:15] <MochaRoo> Red.
[8:15] <MochaRoo> AI OS only.
[8:15] <reis> ever tried to click in the lower left side of the screen upon os-selection?
[8:15] * azaghal (~azaghal@91.148.112.101) Quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds)
[8:16] <reis> there you should get a text-interface for selection
[8:16] <reis> try 7
[8:16] <MochaRoo> I cannot select an OS. AI OS is the only OS on this card.
[8:16] <reis> ic
[8:16] <MochaRoo> I would like a key command to reach a verbose boot up to see what it's doing.
[8:16] <reis> perhaps your tablet battery isempty
[8:17] <MochaRoo> The tablet is currently -on-
[8:17] <reis> yes
[8:17] <reis> but i also experience problems like yours
[8:17] <MochaRoo> Which is why I am able to see the red screen. It is plugged in and I can achieve the same screen unplugged.
[8:17] <reis> after having discharged the tabled
[8:17] <reis> tablet
[8:17] * azaghal (~azaghal@91.148.113.253) has joined #touchbook
[8:17] <MochaRoo> It will not load. I would like to see what the OS is attempting to load before it halts.
[8:18] <reis> can you chvt to vt 1 ?
[8:18] <MochaRoo> chvt?
[8:18] <reis> ctrl alt f1
[8:18] <MochaRoo> Let's see
[8:19] <MochaRoo> No
[8:19] <reis> hmm
[8:20] * robclark (~robclark@nat/ti/x-irgdccyljmmvevhr) has joined #touchbook
[8:21] <reis> well no ideas... ever tried a std. installation on sd?
[8:22] <MochaRoo> What constitutes a 'standard' installation? Every single installation I have attempted with the image available on AI's site has left out several critical files.
[8:23] <MochaRoo> As far as I can tell, Updater.exe does not even do anything at all under Windows.
[8:23] <reis> hmm in the install.sh script you can find the needed files
[8:24] <reis> and download them
[8:24] <emile> under windows I have used updater, and it works
[8:24] <MochaRoo> Do I need -any other- file for the card under Windows other than sd-card.gz
[8:24] * Meizirkki (~Meizirkki@bbwirelessgw2-fee1dc00-2.dhcp.inet.fi) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[8:24] <MochaRoo> To use with Updater.exe
[8:25] <MochaRoo> Because the Reinstall page on the Wiki makes no other mention of any other required files.
[8:25] <reis> never tried it with windows
[8:25] <reis> anyone an idea why the mount options in installer.sh are set to use utf8?
[8:26] * emile (~emile@ip4da4f534.direct-adsl.nl) Quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)

[8:27] * Meizirkki (~Meizirkki@bbwirelessgw2-fee1dc00-2.dhcp.inet.fi) has joined #touchbook
[8:31] <MochaRoo> Updater.exe does not appear to be partioning or placing a -single file- on the card, despite claiming it's success ~and~ being run under admin.
[8:32] <MochaRoo> Is there a single part of this entire machine, software or hardware, that is not horrifically flawed in some way or another? I have never had a successful boot. Not one.
[8:33] <gregoiregentil> MochaRoo: what's your problem?
[8:33] <gregoiregentil> Your system has never boot correctly?
[8:33] <MochaRoo> I am unable to reinstall the OS with any sort of success. I have tried several methods across OS X, Linux, and Windows. I am currently on Windows.
[8:33] <MochaRoo> Updater.exe does not appear to be writing to the card at all. It claims success, yet it writes no files to the card.
[8:34] <gregoiregentil> Windows is the most flaky...
[8:34] <gregoiregentil> that's possible because silicon power changed the size of the cards in recent batches
[8:34] <gregoiregentil> and that screws up in the windows updater.
[8:34] <gregoiregentil> Do you have a Linux machine somewhere and you can put the card into it?
[8:35] <MochaRoo> Yes. The install script for that machine never completes properly and leaves the OS with several missing critical files. I get a kernel panic no matter which OS I choose.
[8:36] <gregoiregentil> so if possible, take the card and put it in a Linux machine
[8:36] <MochaRoo> I have it inside a Linux virtual machine right now. ( Ubuntu 9.10 )
[8:36] <gregoiregentil> can you copy paste here the output of fdisk -l
[8:37] <gregoiregentil> can you download http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/release/install-sd.sh
[8:37] <MochaRoo> Yes.
[8:38] <MochaRoo> Disk /dev/sdb: 8048 MB, 8048869376 bytes
[8:38] <MochaRoo> Followed by a list of custom partitions ( sdb1 thru sdb 4 )
[8:38] <MochaRoo> *sdb4
[8:38] <gregoiregentil> OK
[8:39] <gregoiregentil> so now try to do the following:
[8:39] <gregoiregentil> in the terminal window of your linux machine:
[8:39] <gregoiregentil> sudo -s
[8:39] <MochaRoo> Yes
[8:39] <gregoiregentil> chmod a+x install-sd.sh
[8:39] <MochaRoo> yes
[8:39] <gregoiregentil> ./install-sd.sh -d /dev/sdb -f -e
[8:40] <gregoiregentil> and please copy paste the whole output of the script when it's done in pastebin.com so that I can take a look
[8:40] <MochaRoo> Okay. What does the -f flag do?
[8:41] <MochaRoo> ( waiting for it to complete )
[8:41] <gregoiregentil> force
[8:41] <MochaRoo> Ah.
[8:41] <gregoiregentil> it won't ask you anything
[8:42] * topi` (~topi@host-62-220-235-64.fonet.fi) Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)

[8:45] <gregoiregentil> reading - one second
[8:46] <MochaRoo> Everything appears to be normal up until the downloading component. It always seems to abruptly finish, as if missing several files.
[8:46] <MochaRoo> But you'll see that in a moment.
[8:47] <MochaRoo> Although I have a local copy this time around.
[8:49] * snlemons (~snlemons@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) has joined #touchbook
[8:50] <gregoiregentil> MochaRoo: Can you copy paste again the script to see where you are? There is something that is a little bit strange, the kernel is not downloaded by copied locally. Can you also ls the directory in which you are doing this?
[8:50] <MochaRoo> On it.
[8:52] <MochaRoo> http://pastebin.com/d193e1d20 - I wish I could tell the script to only install AI OS.
[8:52] <MochaRoo> I am doing this from /Desktop
[8:54] <gregoiregentil> so please ls /Desktop

[9:01] <MochaVM> Is there any way to tell the script to use -only- a specific OS?
[9:05] <gregoiregentil> No and no
[9:05] <MochaVM> Hrm.
[9:07] <MochaVM> So the problem is that the kernel is being installed improperly?
[9:07] <MochaVM> Or not at all?

[9:10] <gregoiregentil> you have some files locally
[9:10] <gregoiregentil> I'm not sure which version there are
[9:10] <MochaRoo> They are whatever is available via /latest
[9:13] <MochaVM> As of yesterday.
[9:13] <gregoiregentil> OK. so what's the status of the script now?
[9:13] <MochaVM> Stuck on installing ubuntu.squashfs. I'm going to rerun it with local copies of each OS.squashfs if you don't mind.
[9:14] <MochaVM> Will be much faster.

[11:31] <e42172> Ive been on the order screen a few times
[11:32] <e42172> I have been trying to install the OS on a virtual sd card image to run under qemu, but not having much luck formatting the sd image

[11:41] <e42172> 2046 /255 = 8

[11:48] <MochaRoo> gregoiregentil: I think it would be of benefit to package future OS releases both seperately and in USB stick friendly .img's, closer to what Ubuntu has now.

[18:36] <MochaRoo> Ping
[18:36] <gregoiregentil> can you please clarify the problem with fdisk -s
[18:36] <gregoiregentil> I'm a little bit surprised and worried
[18:36] <gregoiregentil> do you have a card?
[18:36] <gregoiregentil> can you copy pate fdisk -s ${DEST}
[18:37] <e42172> I dont have a card, I'm trying to create a virtual sd card
[18:37] <e42172> fdisk -s ${DEST}

[18:37] <gregoiregentil> on my system
[18:38] <gregoiregentil> same with fdisk
[18:38] <e42172> ok, that helps. I'll figure out how to create the virtual file with a much larger blocksize
[18:41] <gregoiregentil> MochaRoo: so have you managed to create a card?
[18:41] <gregoiregentil> and did you have some problem with sfdisk -s ?
[18:42] <e42172> qemu-img create sd.image 8G
[18:42] <e42172> created the card
[18:42] <e42172> losetup /dev/loop0 qemu/sd.image
[18:42] <e42172> gave me access
[18:42] <e42172> but the script is failing as CYL calculates to 0
[18:43] <e42172> and I couldn't figure out what to supply to sfdisk to do it manually
[18:43] <gregoiregentil> I didn't take that into account while writing the script! ;-)
[18:43] <e42172> yeah, I'm hacking. I want to test drive/dev while I wait for the order queue
[18:44] <gregoiregentil> wait...
[18:45] <gregoiregentil> have you read that: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Qemu ?
[18:45] <e42172> I have not, but I will now :)

[23:25] <Sn0wman_Desk> gregoiregentil: you know when the next release is planned?
[23:26] <gregoiregentil> February for sure, but more middle or end
[23:26] <Sn0wman_Desk> alright thanks
[23:27] <Sn0wman_Desk> any notable fixes/upgrades?
[23:30] <gregoiregentil> yes. As usual!
[23:30] <Sn0wman_Desk> haha I know, I meant for you to (hopefully) tell me some haha
[23:30] <gregoiregentil> For AI OS, it's and will be only fixes. Start menu touch screen for instance.
[23:31] <Sn0wman_Desk> oh thank god! haha
[23:31] <gregoiregentil> Ubuntu, some additions. It has 95% of what AI OS has now.
[23:31] <Sn0wman_Desk> what about video acceleration on ubu?
[23:31] <gregoiregentil> Android. working on it to make it work correctly
[23:31] <Sn0wman_Desk> 1.6 or 2.0?
[23:31] <gregoiregentil> Ubuntu - video: it's 755 done
[23:31] <gregoiregentil> trying to go for 2.0
[23:32] <Sn0wman_Desk> 755?
[23:32] <gregoiregentil> 75%
[23:32] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah
[23:32] <Sn0wman_Desk> what does that require? the kernel modification?
[23:33] <gregoiregentil> no, porting some libs + compiling some new project for Ubuntu
[23:33] <Sn0wman_Desk> what projects?
[23:35] <gregoiregentil> gst-dsp
[23:36] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah, didn't you do something different with AIOS instead of gst-dsp?
[23:38] <Sn0wman_Desk> in previous versions*
[23:47] <gregoiregentil> No. There are two DSP in AIOS. There will be only one in Ubuntu
[23:48] <Sn0wman_Desk> no, I mean in previous versions of AIOS, didn't you use some other method to access the video acceleration?
[23:49] <Sn0wman_Desk> I thought I remembed asking you how it was done, and you said you had to modify the program and kernel
