[2:55] * leinir (~leinir@amarok/usability/leinir) Quit (Ping timeout: 276 seconds)
[2:55] <Mrkva> why there's an uImage2 and not uImage kernel? :)
[3:11] * leinir (~leinir@amarok/usability/leinir) has joined #touchbook
[3:12] * Vito_| (~Sysel@gw.loccal.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 276 seconds)

[3:50] <Mrkva> oh come on! you've switched to gnome!?
[3:54] <leinir> wait, what?!
[3:56] <Mrkva> 2010-09.a AIOS release has a GNOME as a DE
[3:56] <leinir> Now that MeeGo thing just becomes even more interesting :P
[3:57] <Mrkva> on the other hand, it looks gnome is much faster than the LXDE! :D
[4:00] <Mrkva> great job, AI! (really)
[4:00] * Dmrg (~miguelgf@236.13.60.213.dynamic.mundo-r.com) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[4:01] <leinir> But how'll it run on my 1st gen tb?
[4:01] * Dmrg (~miguelgf@236.13.60.213.dynamic.mundo-r.com) has joined #touchbook
[4:01] <leinir> 256 megs of ram really isn't very much if you try and stuff a complete desktop DE on there
[4:01] <Mrkva> leinir: well, that can be an issue
[4:02] <Mrkva> sorry, I've got to go to school
[4:02] <leinir> Sure thing, see ya! :)
[4:03] <pitillo> are other wm/de to use on it leinir?
[4:03] <Mrkva> oh, and by the way - there's stilll no top-battery meter
[4:04] <leinir> gah
[4:04] <leinir> pitillo: Well, that's the thing - unless they're using the netbook specific version of gnome, i see it as a somewhat dodgy decision...
[4:04] <leinir> i'd much rather have seen plasma-netbook as the ui, really
[4:05] <leinir> Or, you know, MeeGo's netbook or tablet UX ;)
[4:05] <pitillo> ummmm sorry for my lack of knowledge, I just found this project 2 days ago. I'm trying to dig a bit more in the wiki to know about hard/soft
[4:06] <leinir> Well, the original DE used is one designed for low powered devices
[4:06] <leinir> Gnome is a full smack desktop DE with all that comes with that of heavy duty memory requirements and so on
[4:06] <pitillo> but are there all the standards too?
[4:07] <leinir> Most of the heavy duty things can be turned off, but...
[4:07] <pitillo> yes, I just made some test with debian+gdm+gnome on a wm8505 netbook, and it's really weight for those kind of toys
[4:08] <leinir> *nods* Exactly
[4:08] <leinir> What sort of ram does that thing have?
[4:08] <pitillo> that's why I thought that if there were more wm to select (instead of DE)
[4:08] <leinir> Because the 1st gen tb has 256 megs ;)
[4:08] <pitillo> only 128MB (300mhz cpu...) and not so good quality really
[4:09] <pitillo> I'm running e17 on it and it seems to work fine there (there are more alternatives, but putting big DE it's really a pain, to work with them and to move more apps over them)
[4:10] <pitillo> I'll continue reading about this toy, which seems really interesting but I think it's a bit far from my posibilities
[4:15] <leinir> Wow, that's pretty tiny yeah :) Good testing system though! :)

[11:36] <paulk_> alextisserant: I have a questino for you : does the dual-screen feature requires non-free software (on the SB and the host PC) ?
[11:36] <paulk_> question*
[11:37] * mjr wouldn't think so if it's based on the DisplayLink chips, they're free-software friendly (though I'm unsure if and how X.org supports adding them on the fly or as sharing the desktop with an internal adapter)
[11:40] <paulk_> I see that there is an open source implementation of DIsplayLink USB Software :)
[11:43] <mjr> yes, and IIRC they've actively developed it. As said, only thing I don't know is how well it'll integrate with an existing desktop when using X.org, if at all.
[11:45] <mjr> one imagines it'd be fairly easy to _at a minumum_ kludge together a solution to start X on the DisplayLink screen and use x2x to handle input in a fake dual screen fashion. But, hey, if alex has more accurate info on integration, that'd be swell :]

[14:49] <t_s_o> from what i could tell, making use of the displaylink option requires the removal of the cpu and replacing it with the displaylink dongle...
[14:49] <t_s_o> that is, if you want the "smartbook" to behave like a extra screen for a desktop or laptop...

[16:29] <alextisserant> 2010-09.a officially out
[16:31] <rcn-ee> sweet, time to hit the server.. ;)
[16:32] <rcn-ee> say alextisserant i know you are busy, but are you guys planning to push any of the kernel stuff?
[16:39] <alextisserant> you mean upstream?
[16:39] <alextisserant> that's the plan, yes
[16:39] <rcn-ee> yeah... i've been playing around with upstream on the touchbook myself, it's a pretty big diff. ;)
[16:40] <alextisserant> yes, we'll try to push as much as possible
[16:40] <alextisserant> (when it makes sense)
[16:40] <rcn-ee> awesome.. yeap i agree with that..
[16:41] <alextisserant> if you have any good connexion there that can help...
[16:41] <alextisserant> it's sometimes not that easy to get the attention :-)
[16:42] <rcn-ee> i agree.. you guys have more stuff upstream then i. ;)
